How do I keep my wicks trimmed for a more premium soy candle experience?
I usually use a nail clipper to reach down into the container even when the wax has melted all the way down to make sure I keep my wick clipped to 1/4".
Why should I keep my wicks trimmed?
When your wick is too long it can cause excess carbon to build up and create a mushroom like tip to form on the wick.
Always cut your wicks to height when purchased and before every burn to avoid this sooting and black smoke.
What is Tunneling?
If you cut your wick too short it won't have enough fuel to fully create a proper burn pool. Tunneling is when your candle only burns down the center leaving a good amount of wax along the sides of the container.
This will occur if you do not burn your soy candle
for long enough in one sitting. This will also happen if your soy wax candle was not designed properly.
We advise you burn a 3-inch diameter soy wax candle for at least an hour and a half. But no less than one hour. Burn a 1-inch diameter candle for approximately 30-40 minutes or until you gain a proper burn pool.
What is a Burn Pool?
A burn pool is when the wax is melted all the way to the sides of the container it is in with at least 1/4" depth.
Soy wax especially has a "memory" and will only melt to the furthest point of the last melt.
In the picture below you can see a dark gray area of the container where the soy was began.
You can also see how each burn did not leave excess wax along the sides of the container.
This is a clear sign that you have successfully created a proper burn pool and achieved a "clean melt".
FOLLOW ALL CANDLE WARNING LABELS AND INSTRUCTIONS!
DO NOT to burn all the soy wax out of your container.
This can be dangerous because once the wax is mostly gone and you are left with a hot container without much fuel left it can overheat and break, causing injury or damage to personal property.
Ignoring warning labels is like petting a wild tiger!
